EDITORIAL: Avril Lavigne's Dark Side
Sunday, January 12, 2003 - Toronto
Thirteen year-old punk rock sensation Avril Lavigne is on top of the world these days. Fresh from 37 grammy nominations, this "bad girl" of poppy trash music is making her mark.
Unfortunately, my investigations have revealed a dark side to this shining star. And I'm not talking about her complete, autographed Britney Spears CD and memorabilia collection!
It seems that late at night, hovelled in her room, she has been busy programming nasty computer viruses. Her latest creation, lirva (that's her name spelled backwards, dummy), has caught the attention of the world. Strangely, it does the exact same stuff as most other e-mail viruses (sends itself off to everyone, disables firewalls, broadcasts the IP to the alien mothership, etc.), but then it launches The Official Avril Lavigne website!
Perhaps her busy music career, Junior High School, and her late night hacker debut, explain why Avril has never heard of David Bowie (b

).
After the grammies, and her current talk show circuit tour, it is rumoured that Avril plans a world concert tour with boy-band opening act Gwar.
Take that, Sk8er Boi!
