"Naive" Chretien Insults France
Friday, May 30, 2003 - Evian, France
Just as officials are gearing up for the G8 Summit in Evian, France, Jean Chretien has opted for a change of pace from his standard policy of insulting America.
In a seeming policy change this week, he has opted to direct current insults toward France, Canada's partner in the United Francophone Nations (UFN), NATO, NORAD, G8, and other acronyms.
In an off-camera interview aboard his chartered plane, Jean Chretien reportedly pointed out to reporters that "Evian" spelled backwards is "Naive".
This quip, as usual, brought strong criticism from French newspaper editorialists and phone in radio shows, while being splashed across front covers across Europe.
Our reporter asked Chretien if he had some "good ones" for all G8 nations. Chretien reportedly declined.
